General Surgery in South Delhi: General Surgeons at THE CLINICS, Hauz Khas and Green Park
General surgery covers the common operations of the abdomen, the abdominal wall, the skin and soft tissues, the breast and thyroid, and the anal region. At THE CLINICS, general surgeons see patients at two places in South Delhi. Consultations take place at THE CLINICS MISC, Hauz Khas and at THE CLINICS Green Park. All operations are done at THE CLINICS MISC, H2, Hauz Khas, opposite Neeli Masjid, New Delhi 110016, which is a DGHS-licensed surgical centre. Wherever it is suitable, the surgery is done by keyhole (laparoscopic) or laser methods.

Conditions we treat
Hernia. We treat inguinal (groin), umbilical, incisional and ventral hernias. Most are repaired laparoscopically with mesh, using TAPP, TEP, eTEP or IPOM Plus. See hernia surgery in South Delhi.
Gallbladder stones. Gallstones that cause pain, infection, jaundice or pancreatitis are usually treated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy. See gallbladder stone surgery.
Appendix. Appendicitis can be treated by laparoscopic appendix removal. Sudden, severe abdominal pain needs urgent medical attention. THE CLINICS has no dedicated emergency department, so call +91 92173 81353 for advice.
Piles, fissure, fistula and pilonidal sinus. We use laser treatment for piles and fissure, LIFT or seton for fistula, and excision or laser for pilonidal sinus. See laser surgery for piles, fissure and fistula and piles, fissure and fistula treatment.
Lumps, cysts and soft-tissue problems. We treat lipomas, sebaceous cysts and other soft-tissue swellings, along with soft-tissue infections and abscesses. Lipoma and sebaceous cyst removal is generally done under local anaesthesia.
Breast and thyroid. Dr Gopal Puri sees patients with breast lumps, benign breast conditions, breast cancer, thyroid nodules and other neck swellings. See breast cancer surgery in Delhi.
Hydrocele. Hydrocele surgery is done by our general surgeons as well as the urology team, and it can be done under local anaesthesia where suitable.
Circumcision. Conventional, laser and stapler circumcision are done by the urologists and by Dr Aayush Nagpal and Dr Saurabh Bansal. See circumcision in Delhi.
Larger abdominal and GI operations. These include GERD and hiatus hernia surgery, colorectal surgery and weight-loss surgery. See laparoscopic and GI surgery.
Open or laparoscopic surgery: how the operation is done
Laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery is done through a few small cuts, usually 5–10 mm. The surgeon uses a camera, thin instruments and a 4K HD laparoscopic system. Compared with open surgery, it usually means smaller scars and a shorter hospital stay. Many hernia, gallbladder and appendix operations are done this way.
Open surgery uses a single larger cut. It may be the right choice for some large or complicated hernias, for skin and soft-tissue lumps, and for abscess drainage. Occasionally an operation that starts laparoscopically is changed to open surgery for safety.
Laser procedures are used for piles, fissure, fistula and pilonidal sinus, often as day care where suitable.
Your surgeon recommends the method after examining you and reviewing your tests. You get a written plan that covers:
-
the operation advised;
-
the type of anaesthesia;
-
the expected hospital stay;
-
the fees for the procedure, which are shared after the consultation.
Recovery
Recovery depends on the operation and on your health. Patients having gallbladder surgery, hernia repair or laser proctology often go home the same day or the next day. Larger abdominal operations need a longer stay. Before discharge, you receive written advice on:
-
wound care;
-
pain relief;
-
diet;
-
walking and lifting;
-
when to return to work.
A follow-up visit is booked to check the wound and review any biopsy reports.
Call the clinic if any of these happen after you go home:
-
fever;
-
increasing pain or swelling;
-
redness or discharge from the wound;
-
vomiting;
-
difficulty passing urine or stools.
